From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we felt very welcome. I certainly recommend the Barnsdale.
We stayed for a catch-up with friends and hung out in the bar and then had an amazing dinner in the 1760 Barn.
Whether using the hotel for a base to access the vicinity, or as romantic weekend, you cannot go wrong.

From the most friendly welcome to the pre dinner drinks in the cosy bar, walks around the grounds and a delicious evening meal we had a really lovely stay. The hotel is a series of beautiful stone buildings and well cared for outside space. Didn’t brave the outdoor pool but highly recommend the spa. A lovely special birthday weekend

We had a private dinner with a small group of friends, with a one night stay, and had an excellent experience throughout. The team were very helpful in arranging the dinner, and certainly delivered on the day.
The private room for our event was ideal for our group size, the food and service over dinner was super, and the rooms and hotel were welcoming and comfortable. As an added bonus, they let us use the private room again for breakfast the next day - an unexpected nice touch.
Thank you to the whole team for a memorable experience.

The Barnsdale is truly a gem in Oakham! As a photographer, I’ve had the pleasure of capturing both weddings and events here, and it never fails to impress. The venue is stunningly located with breathtaking views, creating the perfect backdrop for any special occasion.
The events team, led by the incredible Ellie, Beth, and CJ, are absolute pros. They run a tight ship, ensuring every detail is seamless and stress-free for couples and event organisers alike. Their dedication and professionalism shine through in every interaction.
One of the standout features for me is the newly added spa – such a wonderful touch! It’s ideal for couples wanting to enjoy a little relaxation either before or after their big day, making the whole experience even more memorable, and yes I did test it out just to make sure :)
And let’s not forget the newly renovated events barn! It’s such a versatile space, perfect for everything from award ceremonies to wedding ceremonies and receptions.
If you’re looking for a venue that ticks all the boxes – stunning location, top-notch facilities, and an outstanding team – The Barnsdale should be at the top of your list.
Highly recommended!

Stayed for the New Year's Eve party, generally the planning and execution was fine, (good food), however the post dinner musical entertainment was very poor. Music was far too loud and the band ended up driving many of the guests away and back to the main hotel bar, (which initially was not 'open for service' even at 11 pm).
This was a relatively smart and expensive black-tie event and most guests had made an effort in respect of their attire; the band however , particularly the lead singer was dressed as if she was going to spend a day on her allotment..

Nice hotel: cute and charming, good sized and comfortable rooms, nice restaurant and spa facilities (although the spa is quite small).

The hotel offered us a wonderful welcome and the staff were engaging , service was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. We stayed on New years eve the hotel was very tastefully decorated. The hotel was full and service and standards remained excellent. The food was likewise. We will recommend Barnsdale to friends and family. The General manager and team are doing an excellent job.

Fantastic time at their New Year’s Eve celebration. Room and venue chosen due to its acceptance of dogs. The ambience , food and entertainment were outstanding and we loved every minute.

The Barnsdale has good food, comfy beds and excellent events, with friendly and helpful staff. I'd certainly return, but would maybe sample a different room as I booked late and had little choice. The spa facilities are really a fairweather choice when it comes to the outdoor pool but I'd love to go back in better weather!

Our stay was for three days over Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
Food throughout our stay was excellent, with friendly and efficient service making the experience a joy.
The Christmas stocking hanging on the bedroom door created a wonderful Christmas ambience.

Had a wonderful 3-course meal here on Boxing Day. Would definitely recommend the fishcakes, Risotto and the Chocolate Tart.
CJ was taking care of our table and she was fantastic. Service was very attentive and each course came out at the right time. Overall, a great dinner.

A lovely rural hotel retreat. Excellent facilities. Just had Christmas 2024 here. Food Excellent. Service Excellent. A little expensive but worth it. Really recommended. My wife is stuck in a wheelchair, but here they have ground floor rooms with walk-in shower and toilet facilities, really helpful. (See last pics)

This is a little gem of a hotel, it’s tucked away off a main road looking out to Rutland Water, it’s very tastefully decorated and has a classy country feel, very friendly and welcoming staff and a wonderful breakfast. I so enjoyed my stay, I will definitely be back.

Spent the night there for a wedding - a good location and public areas feel upmarket. Room and Breakfast at nearly £200 per night a tad disappointing - bed was a little hard, tv had few channels . Tea and coffee was lovely . Breakfast was fair but only one small rasher of bacon on a full English. Staff excellent

Second time I have stayed at the property and again it did not disappoint. The new menu since my last visit was lovely and enjoyed the Christmassy feel in the hotel. Look forward to my next visit when in the area.

Mainly a positive stay.
The good things. Staff polite and helpful. Food and breakfast good.(There is an added 12.5% service charge that is optional but as mentioned staff were great). We didn’t get time to use the spa so unable to review.
The not so good. No mattress cover, I found this on stripping the bed to leave. This is a real negative for me. Bedside table dusty, lighting very subdued which was nice but difficult at times to see well enough.

Had afternoon tea at the Barnsdale Hotel for my birthday and what can I say... Absolutely incredible. The customer service was fantastic right from the off, catering for my awkward dietary requirements as if it were no trouble at all. The hotel is warm, cosy and beautiful. The food... The best brownie and scones I've ever had, with amazing homemade (I think) plum jam. We weren't rushed at all, so had a delightful time sitting in the cosy orangery. The location is perfect as well, with stunning views across Rutland Water.
We highly recommend visiting, and will definitely be back! Thank you so much for a wonderful afternoon.

Disappointing for the price and it was supposed to be a special birthday treat for me. Very muddy car park ruined my best shoes on arrival. Excessive service charge in the restaurant. Serious errors on the bill when checking out.

Went for the Rutland Christmas Market. Pleasant afternoon out. The downside was the parking being a coach drop off/pick up to the venue.

Went to the hotel for the first time for a couple of nights. It is beautifully placed if you want to walk round the whole of Rutland Water (but not the peninsula!) as we did on a Saturday. It was a really comfortable, welcoming and pleasant stay - warm, well-appointed with professional and friendly staff. Restaurant was well-served with a good range of food and drink on offer. Thank you for a lovely couple of nights!

We recently stayed at the hotel, influenced by the super arrangements it provided for our granddaughter's wedding. With our son in law reaching 60 we thought let's go back.Sadly it was a big disappointment. We were allocated room fourteen which was at the top of a very steep staircase which was poorly lit. The room itself looked like a pigeon from days past. The furniture looked tatty. The bathroom was less than roomy the bath had a chip in ,it lacked handles and getting into the bath was via a corner of the bath.
We were disappointed with the standard of food.On our first breakfast my wife's cooked breakfast was very greasy. Our evening meal also had problems. The chalk stream trout was over cooked and potatoes were undercooked. We decided to not have the evening meal again.
We found a local pub with great food and lower prices.
On check out our daughter said our stay was poor value for money and we would not be back

Esperienza positiva. Struttura tradizionalmente britannica e accogliente. Abbiamo cenato e fatto colazione. Il cibo era eccellente.

Got duped out of £5pp to attend a disorganised Christmas market. Parking a shambles. About a 1.5 km away from the actual site. They provide a bus which you queue for in the open (there and back) it was raining so managed to get my morning shower in. Gate in a shambles stood and watched the attendendant chat for 10 minutes about coronation street or slippers (couldn't quite hear) whilst we waited in a very narrow doorway. People were fighting us to leave. Got to the point where I started to refuse to let people leave as I wasn't getting in. Eventually, i got bored and walked past. No questions asked. Wish i handnt bought a ticket. After I checked out the first couple of stands and the chatty Kathy on the gate had finally finished her conversation, I went back to claim my wristband. It was a lovely sparkling gold. Very festive.
There's not much to see or do once in. Some okay stands/food options and Santa on donation basis, which was its saving grace. Normally, you get fleeced visiting Santa because the elves have unionised and made unreasonable demands over pay. Not here. The elves just hold out their hands, and you put in whatever leftover food you have.
The only entertainment beyond this was the WI dancing in a very low roofed tent. (Possibly erected by the elves?) The only ones enjoying this entertainment were the people providing it.
Overall, I'm pretty disappointed I drove 45 minutes to attend this as my first Xmas market of they year.

Slightly underwhelming, rooms are nothing special, bad lighting , poor house keeping (surfaces dusty) beds very badly made. No shaver socket in the bathrooms(told it was a design error, so who signed it off?) or even a shelf. Toilet seat chipped and damaged , so not hygenic. Rooms not thought out properly, two chairs to sit in but underneath the TV ? and no light next to them if you wanted to sit and read.
Food in the Orangery was average pub food but way overpriced, service haphazard. Breakfast just okay , with a rather poor buffet selection.Really could not recommend Barnsdale , give it a couple of years to let it raise it's game and become a decent country hotel. Great location though

Dined in the restaurant. It was really excellent! Good hotel silver service food. Sadly so many places are selling pub menus at 4 star hotel prices. Barnsdale have stopped the rot. Fair pricing on quality food.
